Industrial water mainly includes boiler water, process water, cleaning water, cooling water, sewage, etc. The largest water consumption among them is cooling water, accounting for over 90% of industrial water consumption. Different industrial systems and uses have different requirements for water quality; However, the cooling water used by various industrial sectors has basically the same requirements for water quality, which has led to the rapid development of cooling water quality control as an application technology in recent years. In factories, cooling water is mainly used to condense steam, cool products or equipment. If the cooling effect is poor, it will affect production efficiency, reduce product yield and quality, and even cause production accidents.


Water is an ideal cooling medium. Because the presence of water is very common, compared to other liquids, water has a larger heat capacity or specific heat, and its latent heat of vaporization and melting is also very high.


Like water, air is also a commonly used cooling medium. But compared to air, the thermal conductivity of water is about 24 times higher. Therefore, when the cooling effect is the same, water cooling is much smaller than air cooling equipment. Large industrial enterprises and factories with high water consumption generally use water cooling. The commonly used water cooling systems can be divided into three categories: direct current systems, closed systems, and open evaporation systems. The latter two types of cooling water are both recycled, so they are also called circulating cooling water systems.
